Q1: What is MCE?
A1: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) is a special version of Windows that is designed to turn your PC into a home entertainment center, complete with DVD playback and television time-shifting PVR functionality. It is available only on preconfigured systems, from various OEMs and SIs.

Q2: What MCE products does ATI currently offer?
A2: For a complete list of products provided by ATI, please refer to our Windows XP Media Center Edition solutions page. Media Center requires a supported TV Tuner card and an MPEG-2 video encoding / decoding sub-system

Q3: Will ATI’s Remote Wonder Series function under Media Center?
A3: No. A specially designed infrared (IR) remote control for Media Center is required for proper functionality. The Remote Wonder Series from ATI are radio-frequency (RF) based remotes, and will not function with Media Center.

Q4: My system runs MCE 2004. What are the system requirements for software video encoding for my pre-configured All-in-Wonder® product?
A4: Software video encoding requires at least 128MB of system memory. Also an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz HT or faster CPU is required. Please note that the All-in-Wonder® Software Encode solution is no longer provided by ATI, nor supported under Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

Q5: Where can I buy ATI MCE solutions?
A5: ATI MCE solutions can be purchased in pre-configured MCE systems from major OEMs and System Integrators. For a list of manufacturers, please see the Media Center PC Manufacturers site, provided by Microsoft.

Q6: How do I get ATI display drivers for MCE?
A6: ATI’s standard Catalyst driver stream supports the MCE operating system. Most recent display drivers for Windows XP Media Center Edition are located from the Drivers & Software site.

Q7: Is my Radeon™ or All-in-Wonder® product supported in Windows XP Media Center Edition?
A7:
The following Radeon™ and All-In-Wonder® Products are supported:
  • Radeon™ 9550 Series or higher
  • All-In-Wonder® 9600 Series or higher

Q8: Are there DVD Decoder requirements for Media Center and ATI’s TV or DTV Tuner products?
A8: For a list of supported DVD Decoders under Windows XP Media Center Edition, please refer to the Component and Technology Suppliers site, provided by Microsoft. Please note that a supported DVD Decoder should be preconfigured by your PC Manufacturer, and is required for proper operation of Media Center, including DVD playback, and watching or recording TV or DTV channels.

Q9: Is the retail boxed HDTV WONDER™ supported under Media Center?
A9: Media Center will recognize the HDTV WONDER™ as a separate Digital TV Tuner device; Analog TV tuning will not work or be detected by Media Center for the HDTV WONDER™. A previous hardware encoder-based Analog TV Tuner (such as ATI’s E-HOME WONDER) should already be preinstalled by your system manufacturer for support under Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and should continue to be used for analog TV viewing/recording purposes. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is the first release by Microsoft that supports HDTV over-the-air tuning, however, The Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with HDTV Support (KB873369) is required prior to installing the HDTV WONDER™. More information is available from Microsoft.
