AMD's digital television business unit is the world leader
in the design and manufacture of silicon and software solutions
for integrated digital televisions (or IDTVs).
An IDTV is a television that combines reception of digital off-air
broadcasts (ATSC, DVB, ISDB) with digital picture processing
and usually a digital display (LCD, plasma, projection). IDTV
advantages over traditional TVs often include higher resolution
video, more channels, thinner and lighter displays, and better
picture quality. Over time most televisions in North America,
Europe, and Japan are expected to become IDTVs.
AMD also develops components for terrestrial, cable, satellite
and IP set top boxes.
